Large tribal Maasai leather warrior shield
This is an antique shield of the Maasai tribe who reside mostly in Kenya and Tanzani. It is made from animal hide stretched over a wood frame and fastened with leather strips. The convex elliptical shield is painted with geometric patterns on the front with pigments. It has a wood and leather handle attached to the back. The shield could have been used as a defense weapon or in tribal ceremonies. It has a steel wire installed on the side to enable wall hanging. It is 38" high, 25" wide and 3" deep.
