PAST COLLECTION ITEM Rare 18th century English engraving Perspective View of the New Drawbridge Canal, and Great Orphan House at the HagueThis is an original vue d'optique hand-colored copperplate engraving circa 1770, after George Augustus Baldwyn (engraver). At the bottom left of the image the title appears in English as A perspective view of the New Drawbridge Canal, and Great Orphan House at the Hague. A French translation also appears on the bottom right. The image depicts the large Bierkade (quay and canal) in the center of The Hague - the bridge over the canal in the foreground, a coach approaching in the left, boats in the middle distance, the house behind another bridge in the background. The frame is 20" wide and 14" high.
It was published by Carington Bowles, in St. Paul's Church Yard, London. This item is in much better condition than the one in the collection of the British Museum which can be accessed online.
