This is a bronze sculpture of the Farnese Hercules with his downward looking pose. Leaning on his knobby club which is draped with the pelt of the Nemean Lion, he holds the apples of the Hesperides garden, but conceals them behind his back cradled in his right hand. The sculpture is 47" high, 21" wide and 16" deep. The base is 16"x16". It weighs about 105 lb. The Greek original Farnese Hercules sculpture by Lysippos (or one of his circle) was made in the 4th century BC.
