PAST COLLECTION ITEM Victorian era cranberry glass window panels with etched birds and treesThis is a pair of rare Victorian era scenic cranberry glass (aka Gold Ruby glass or Rubino Oro) window panels. In one panel there is a pair of flying swans, while the other panel has a pair of flying hummingbirds. These glass panels are at least 100 years old according to appraisal by an auction house, probably from the late 19th century. It is not easy to find similar antique panels/windows. I believe these were made by etching the ruby glass layer on the main frosted glass panel. The birds and trees that can be seen on the panels have a slight thickness to them. When light passes through the panels the features look really beautiful. I have included pictures showing the effect with and without bright light. Small colloids of gold are responsible for the red color of cranberry glass. The frames are 54"x27".
