PAST COLLECTION ITEM Antique gilt wood crowned seated Jambupati Buddha sculpture on carved pedestalIn the Jambupati representation the carved Buddha is seated in the padmasana (full lotus position) with both his feet facing the sky upon a base, his right hand is extended towards the ground in the bhumisparsha (earth touching) gesture, and his left hand is resting on his lap in the dhyana (meditation) mudra. The Buddha is wearing an ornate crown and is adorned on both sides with carved appendages. The crown and the side decoration pieces are removable. This sculpture set is from the 19th century, possibly even the 18th century and is from Burma. Overall it is 72" tall, 20" wide, and 15" deep. The separable base itself is about 29" tall and is very heavy (~100 lb). Both pieces have also been inlaid with colored mirrored glass.
